Welcome to the abridged version of The District and Municipal Public Library's website. 

The District and Municipal Public Library in Olkusz is a modern centre of information, culture, and research. The Olkusz Library combines tradition and openness in line with changes in today's world and promotes the personal development of Silver City’s citizens. Among our most important values are the popularisation of the idea of reading to children at an early age and possession of a wide range of reading materials aimed at adult library users.

We are the largest library in Olkusz County. Our collections are available in the building located at 29b F. Nullo Street - the so-called Central Office in: Adult Lending Library, Children's Lending Library, Adult Reading Room, Media Library and in affiliates: Affiliate No. 2, Affiliate No. 3, Affiliate No. 5, Affiliate in Braciejówka, Affiliate in Gorenice, Affiliate in Osiek and Affiliate in Żurada.

While the printed book remains the primary source of knowledge, our Library also offers access to licensed electronic collections: IBUK Libra CZYTELNIA ON-LINE (Online Reading Room), Legimi and Academica - Digital Lending Library of Scientific Publications.

We possess one of the most modern integrated software that covers all library processes: "Sowa2SQL". Following the example of popular search engines, the solutions proposed by "Sowa2SQL" allow you to reach the materials you are looking for quickly and efficiently, with the possibility of selecting collections among those that are currently available for borrowing.

Our library is a cultural institution with a wide range of activities for the local community. We collect, process and store, but also provide access to documents, and information about library collections, create, and share our computer databases, popularise books, and reading, organise professional development training for librarians, and provide cultural, educational, informational, promotional, and instructional-methodical activities for the benefit of libraries from the Olkusz county, and libraries of its own network.

Additionally, we run a publishing activity, which includes the publication of the magazine "Ilcusiana". We develop thematic exhibitions, and two databases of regional bibliography: an author's database called Bibliografia Powiatu Olkuskiego (Olkusz County Bibliography) and we co-create the Lesser Poland database called Bibliografia Małopolski (SBR - Lesser Poland Voivodeship Regional Bibliography System). Apart from that, we collect regional materials, create thematic compilations, and provide information about the region as well as scan current, and archival written, photographic, and iconographic materials.
